Depo-Provera and Meningioma
Long-term use of the birth control shot has been linked to brain tumors called meningiomas.
A 2024 study in The BMJ reported an increased risk of meningioma with long-term use of medroxyprogesterone acetate, the active ingredient in Depo-Provera. In December 2025 the FDA approved updated labeling that warns about meningioma. Federal lawsuits have been consolidated in MDL 3140 in the Northern District of Florida. Women who received Depo-Provera injections and were later diagnosed with a meningioma may qualify.
